Please note that the only limitations of the free SuperMix trial license are that it expires 15 days after activation and that technical support is not available. SuperMix trial licenses are delivered via email on the same or the next business day.

Instructions

• Save SuperMixTrialLicense.xls to a temporary location.
• Open SuperMixTrialLicense.xls. Enter the personal data requested in the first row of SuperMixTrialLicense.xls into the corresponding columns of the second row of SuperMixTrialLicense.xls. Save the revised copy of SuperMixTrialLicense.xls.
• Compose an email message to SSI Customer Support with the subject line SuperMix Trial License.
• Attach the saved copy of SuperMixTrialLicense.xls to the email message to SSI Customer Support.

Free student edition

Please print this page before downloading the student edition, as the restrictions and other useful information concerning the program are given here. Also note that no technical support is provided for the student edition and that no serial number is required during installation.

Installation:

The student edition of SuperMix is available as a single, self-extracting executable SuperMixStudentSetup.exe.

• Download this file to a temporary folder (for example C:\tempfiles).
• Run SuperMixStudentSetup.exe from the Start Menu or Program Manager.
• Default installation will be to a new folder "C:\Program Files\SuperMixEn Student". You may change the name and location of this folder. After successful installation the downloaded file SuperMixStudentSetup.exe may be deleted.

The student edition contains the following:

• All the examples distributed with the full SuperMix 1 for Windows version. Most of these examples may be run with the student edition (see restrictions below).
• An on-line helpfile, as provided for the full version too. The helpfile includes most of the new SuperMix 1 for Windows manual and a complete tutorial showing the use of SuperMix.

Location for SUPERMIX examples:

By default, SuperMix examples are copied to the folder C:\SuperMixEn Student Examples\ during the installation process. The choice of folder is based on the following MicroSoft guidelines for the installation of applications on Windows Vista 
platforms:

• The application must reside in a protected location in the file system. 
  \Program Files\ and \Windows\System32\ are currently the two allowable protected locations.
• Applications should not attempt to write to locations, such as the following:
  * C:\Windows
  * C:\Windows\System32
  * Program Files\{application}

Considerations: Vista users copying examples to Program Files folder

If the examples are copied to the Program Files folder, the application believes it was able to successfully read and write directly to Program Files. The transparency of file virtualization with Vista enables applications to perceive that they are writing and reading from the protected resource, when in fact they are accessing the virtualized version.

For example, a user is running a computer that is shared with others. This user attempts to save an SuperMix output file under the Program Files\SuperMix\Examples directory: \Program Files\Examples\SchoolsData.txt. Although Program Files\SuperMix\Examples\ is protected, the file will be saved successfully from the application's point-of-view because of Windows Vista file virtualization. To achieve this, the file write is redirected to Users\Username\AppData\Virtual Store\Program Files\Examples\SchoolsData.txt.

For the user to discover his virtualized files, he must navigate to the virtual store with the Compatibility files button on the Explorer toolbar. The files that a particular user updates and saves will remain independent of the other virtualized files on the computer.

Restrictions:

The student edition can run all the analyses the full version can in terms of models selected, statistical options and output. Restrictions are, however, placed on the data used and the size of the model selected. The following restrictions apply in this edition:

• Number of variables:
  The Student Version is limited to 15 Variables, where number of variables equals the number of Dependent + the number of Predictors + the number of Random 2 and 3 Effects.
• Number of cases:
  The Student Version is limited to 10,000 cases, that is, level-1 units.
• Files can not be imported from statistical software packages such as SPSS, SAS and STATA.
• Technical support:
  SSI does not offer technical support for student versions of their programs.

When these limitations are exceeded, an appropriate error message will automatically be displayed.

Importing EXCEL file:

This is accomplished by selecting the "File, Import Data File..." option. Note that row 1 of the spreadsheet (Student Version only) contains the variable labels. To rename the column headers to reflect the variables in each column, first left-click on the row 1 tab to select the complete row and then right-click and select the "Create Headers from Row" option from the pop-up menu.

The spreadsheet headers will now correspond to the names shown in the first row of the spreadsheet. This row is no longer needed, and is deleted by right-clicking anywhere on row 1 and then selecting the "Delete Row" option from the pop-up menu. Use the "File,Save" option when done.

Missing Values:

• Default missing value for student version of SuperMix spread sheet is -999999. When importing a data file, the dots or empty cells will be replaced by default missing values.
• Only one missing value in each SS3 file will be recognized.
